Sheriff Maciol: Whitestown death appears to be homicide

A portion of Westmoreland Road in Whitestown is closed while police and sheriff’s deputies investigate an incident that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

WHITESTOWN, N.Y. -- Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol says an incident reported in Whitestown Wednesday afternoon has turned into a homicide investigation.

Quaheim Holland, 20, of Utica, was found dead in a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Authorities responded to a 911 call about a motor vehicle accident behind a barn at 8517 Westmoreland Road in Whitestown around 12:20 p.m.

If anyone was in the area of Westmoreland Road near Gibson Road in the Town of Whitestown between 11:40 a.m. and noon Wednesday afternoon, you're asked to contact the Oneida County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Unit at 315-765-2226.

The Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and Holland was taken to the Onondaga County Medical Office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

The Westmoreland and Whitesboro school districts were put on lockouts while police initially investigated the incident.
