HERKIMER-Over the weekend, the Herkimer County health department notified Herkimer BOCES of a positive coronavirus case.
According to a letter sent by the district, the case is related to someone at the Herkimer BOCES Career and Technical Education programs at the William E. Busacker Complex in Herkimer.
The district would not confirm whether the positive case is a student or staff member due to privacy.
They say all students and staff in that particular program are being contacted by the health department. Those who may have had contact with the person, will hear from the health department and will be asked to quarantine.
The district says the area of the affected program is being sanitized and disinfected throughout the weekend.
“This is the first test of the COVID-related protocols we put in place, and they are clearly working, as is evidenced by the low number of staff and students involved – as well our ability to take prompt action,” Herkimer BOCES District Superintendent Sandra Sherwood said.
All non-quarantined staff and students may return to in-person instruction beginning Monday, Sept. 21.
