UTICA, NY – Utica firefighters battled an early evening fire Sunday in south Utica that left multiple people homeless.
The fire at 807-809 Arnold Ave. broke out just before 6:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived they found heavy fire coming from the first floor extending to the second floor and attic.
There were initial reports of a woman trapped on the second floor. Firefighters commenced a search and rescue operation but were unable to find anybody. It was later learned that the woman was able to get out of the building on her own.
Utica Fire Chief Scott Ingersoll says 6 adults and 1 child have been displaced by the fire.
“The American Red Cross is being contacted to assist them. We did have a firefighter suffer a minor fall injury. They were evaluated and will continue to operate at the fire scene," he said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
