UTICA, N.Y. – A 57-year-old Utica man is accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl on Feb. 14.

The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office arrested Maurice M. Jones, a Level 3 registered sex offender, on Feb. 24. Level 3 indicates the person has a high risk of offending again.

Jones, who was on parole at the time of his arrest, is charged with sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. A parole violation warrant was also issued before his arraignment.

Deputies say Jones was alone in a vehicle with the girl for a short time when he subjected her to sexual contact. The incident took place in the city of Utica.

According to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, Jones was convicted of first-degree rape in 1990, and is designated as a sexually violent offender.

An order of protection was issued for the 14-year-old girl, and she has been offered services through the Child Advocacy Center.
