SYRACUSE, N.Y. – A registered sex offender, formerly of Herkimer County, was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison after he was found in possession of hundreds of sexually explicit images of children.
In 2019, Daniel M. Passero Jr., 35, was found guilty of downloading sexual images of children to a memory card, that was later found in a phone at his home.
Authorities say Passero was already a Level 3 sexually violent offender prior to this arrest. In 2010, Passero was convicted of first-degree sexual abuse for having sexual contact with a 5-year-old girl. He was sentenced to three years in prison.
Taking previous offenses into account, the judge found that Passero had engaged in a pattern of sexual exploitation of children, and imposed a 20-year term of supervised release after his sentence is served. Passero also must pay $3,000 in restitution.
