DELTA LAKE, NY - The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life returned to Delta Lake State Park this weekend.
Last year’s relay was limited to a drive-through event due to covid 19, but this year things have slowly returned to normal. 20 relay teams walked around a make-shift track raising money for the services the American Cancer Society provides to cancer patients and their families.
While they walked, many of them stopped to reflect on loved ones who are battling, or who have lost their battle, with cancer. The names of those loved ones could be found on luminaries which lined the track.
"Every bag around the track has a name on it that's important to somebody,” says American Cancer Society’s Robert Elinskas. “It represents someone who's fought a battle with cancer. The Relay for Life provides an opportunity to remember those people and to do something positive in their memory. Every bag represents a donation to the American Cancer Society which furthers research, education efforts, and patient services programs".
Locally, the Relay for Life has been helping to raise money for the American Cancer Society for 25 years.
