STEUBEN, N.Y. – A Remsen man was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital after being seriously injured in a crash on State Route 274 in the town of Steuben Tuesday afternoon.
According to Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, around 4:30 p.m., 21-year-old Eric E. Schwarzmueller was driving a 2014 Infinity east on Route 274 when he went off the road, hit a ditch and went airborne. He ultimately hit a tree and came to a stop.
Schwarzmueller was trapped in the vehicle until authorities were called to the scene.
When the Western Fire Department arrived, firefighters called Mercy Flight to the scene and started working on extricating Schwarzmueller from the vehicle. Two sets of jaws of life were used to free Schwarzmueller, who was treated at the scene before being airlifted to SUNY Upstate Medical University.
The extent of Schwarzmueller’s injuries have not yet been released, and his condition is not known at this time.
