The Oneida County Board of Elections Republican commissioner, Rose Grimaldi, submitted her resignation Wednesday, one day after the Democratic Commissioner Carolann Cardone stepped down.
Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente sent a letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo earlier this month asking for the removal of both commissioners after serious procedural errors were uncovered in court proceedings for the 22nd Congressional District race.
Legislative Majority Leader George Joseph says although the commissioners have resigned, the BOE's policies and procedures still need to be examined.
"From our perspective, and I'm speaking from the county, I think we want to do a review and we should take some time and do...a forensic evaluation of what is policy and what was practiced," he said.
The county party committees will need to submit names of suggested appointees to the Oneida County Board of Legislators for approval before the positions can be filled.
