SHERRILL, NY - Oneida County Sheriff's Deputies assisted the Sherill Police Department with a search of a wooded area in an attempt to locate an armed suspect involved in an alleged larceny near Thurston Terrace Saturday morning.
Sheriff Rob Maciol tells NewsChannel 2 that overnight a Sherrill police officer on patrol noticed a suspicious open door to a storage building and stopped to investigate. The officer saw somone in the area and chased the suspect on foot, and the suspect reportedly fired a shot in the direction of the officer. The officer was not injured.

Maciol says an "extensive" search was performed in the area where the pursuit took place, including the deployment of a drone unit once daylight broke. He says officers quickly searched the yards and homes of concerned neighbors, but says the suspect has not been located. Residents were asked to stay in their homes while the search took place.
Maciol says the investigation is ongoing and updates will be made when available.
