RICHFIELD SPRINGS, NY – The 24 students of the Richfield Springs 2020 senior class were honored Monday in what’s becoming an all too familiar way.
With a parade.
The graduating class of 2020 was escorted by the State Police and Richfield Springs Fire Department along Main Street to the Richfield Springs Junior-Senior High School.
Parents, family, teachers, and members of the community lined the street cheering them on as they drove by.
Signs reading “Congrats seniors 2020”, “The tassel was worth the hassle”, and “Seniors 2020 – The one with the pandemic” in a tribute to the tv show friends could also be seen along the way.
Richfield Springs principal Joe D’Apice says this has been a difficult year for the class of 2020, so the school just wanted to do something special to honor them.
“We’re still not sure what we’re going to do with graduation. Whether we can have a smaller ceremony or it’s going to have to be a virtual ceremony, so we’re just trying to keep everyone in a positive, optimistic manner. By doing this little parade I feel we’re going to accomplish those goals.”
The seniors were also given their caps and gowns as they passed through the school parking lot, as well as lawn signs with their names to place in their yards.
