ROME N.Y.- A Western New York Father & Son are riding their bikes along the Erie Canal from Buffalo to Albany in memory of their Daughter & Sister who passed away in May of 2019.
Thursday evening, the two bike riders made a stop in Rome.
Doug and Connor Dickman of Rochester, have been riding their bikes in memory of Sarah Han Dickman. Sarah Han passed away from suicide.
Connor came up with the idea of doing the bike ride a few weeks ago, and started out on Tuesday this week. He says since many Out of the Darkness Walks have gone virtual due to the coronavirus pandemic, Connor found a way (the bike ride) to honor his sister, and raise awareness for suicide prevention.
"With the COVID situation a lot of the walks have gone virtual, so I figured a good socially distanced activity would be to do a bike ride." said Connor.
"Connor wanted to do something in honor and memory of his sister, and this has not been a long planned event, about three weeks ago right around a ride. And Connor said; "Hey why don't you go with me?!" So, it's like not like we did a lot of crazy training for this, or anything!" said Doug.
All Proceeds raised from Doug and Connor's bike trip will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. In just a short week the two have already raised over $7,400 for the charity.
