Rome, NY - Thursday night, the Rome City School District Board of Education officially approved the start of lower risk fall sports to begin practice on Monday, September 28.
The school’s September 21 start was delayed due to reasons related to the coronavirus pandemic.
Boys and Girls varsity and junior varsity soccer, field hockey varsity and junior varsity, girls varsity gymnastics, girls varsity tennis and boys and girls varsity cross country will resume.
The first day of competition for these sports is slated for October 13 and the season will conclude on November 6.
Modified sports are still canceled due to matters of transportation to competitions and lack of field space and space for supervision.
Now that Rome has officially opted in, the schools in the Tri-Valley League that are currently not participating are: Oneida who has postponed the fall sports season, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill is undecided and Utica Proctor is on pause.
Football, girls swimming and cheerleading have been moved to the Fall II season which will begin in March.
