ROME, N.Y. -- Rome Police have arrested one man after responding to an early morning burglary at Smoker's Choice on Black River Boulevard, in Rome. The incident happened just before 2 a.m. Friday morning.

Colby M. Kramer, 22, was charged with one count of third-degree burglary after he was arrested by police trying to flee the scene of the crime.

Initially, a witness had called police to report what seemed like a crash at Smoker’s Choice. Just before police arrived on scene, they were notified of an alarm activation at that location. When they arrived, a car was pulled up to the entrance of the store and the glass doors had been shattered.

Police saw Kramer exit the building and get the in the vehicle, attempting to drive off. The officers ordered Kramer out of the car, where he was arrested and taken into custody. Police say merchandise from the store was located in the vehicle.

Kramer is being held until arraignment in Rome City Court, which is scheduled for Friday afternoon. Police are still investigating the incident.
