ROME, N.Y. -The Rome Rescue Mission hosted their annual Christmas party.

Monday night, many people and families in need stopped by to enjoy dinner, music, and a visit from Santa. The food was provided by donors in the community and served by Verizon Wireless volunteers.

All of the kids that attended were able to pick a gift from under the tree to bring home. The gifts were all donated and wrapped by the Vernon-Verona Sherrill High School.

The Mission helps those in need all year long but around the holidays, it gives them something to look forward to.

"It's all about hope, like it gives them hope, it gives them a reason to move forward, to go on," Destiny Branfalt, administrative assistant, said. "They come here and this is a place that's safe for them. It's a place where they know they're going to be fed, a place they know they're going to get warm and it's a place that can keep them going when they're going through a hard time."

The Rome Rescue Mission is still looking for food and gift donations, as well as volunteers for Christmas. They will provide a meal to anyone in need on Christmas day after 2 p.m.

If you would like to volunteer or donate, you can call (315) 337-2516 or just stop by the Rome Rescue Mission at 413 E. Dominick St.
