A Rome man is facing a felony rape charge after he allegedly had sexual contact with a child, according to Chief Deputy Michael Purdy of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center.
Joshua Sherman, 26, is charged with felony third-degree rape.
According to Purdy, the investigation began in July 2018 and investigators found that the alleged crime had occurred earlier that month. Over the course of four months, Purdy says enough evidence was collected to charge Sherman for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old female. He was arrested on Monday and then arraigned.
An order of protection has been issued to protect the victim, who has also been offered services through the Child Advocacy Center.
