ROME, N.Y. – A Rome man accused of sexually exploiting a 6-year-old child appeared in federal court Monday, where he was remanded to jail without bail until his next hearing.
According to the Department of Justice office in the northern district of New York, 55-year-old Michael Mayhew allegedly took several sexually explicit photos of the child on his cell phone in December of 2018.
Mayhew faces 15 to 30 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine, if he’s convicted. He would also be required to register as a sex offender.
Mayhew’s next hearing is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 24.
