ROME, N.Y. – A grand jury has indicted a Rome man for second-degree murder following an investigation into a fatal shooting at the Red Carpet Inn in Rome this past November.
Wilfredo Cotto Jr., 40, allegedly shot 28-year-old Benjamin J. Davis, of Ulster County, around 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 15, 2020. Davis was shot in the chest and head. He later died from his injuries at Rome Memorial Hospital.
Police said two suspects fled the scene in a black Nissan Rogue.
Cotto was arrested Friday and will be virtually arraigned on Monday, May 3.
At the time of the homicide, state police said the victim and suspect likely knew each other.
