ROME, N.Y. – A Rome woman is accused of child abuse after her 7-week-old son was hospitalized for broken bones in his arm and leg.
Police arrested 19-year-old Kayla M. Pett on Thursday, and charged her with second-degree assault, a D felony.
The child abuse investigation began on June 20. Investigators say additional charges are expected.
The infant was treated at Rome Memorial Hospital and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.
After he was released, the child was placed in protective custody and an order of protection was issued against Pett.
She was arraigned at CAP court and held on $2,500 bail.
