ROME, N.Y. – A Rome teen was arrested after allegedly hitting a man with a gun while trying to steal his beer.
Police were called to River Street at East Dominick Street in Rome around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, for a report of menacing.
Officers found a victim who claimed to have been approached by two Black suspects. He said one of them pulled out a handgun and tried to steal his beer. When he refused to give up his beer, one of the suspects allegedly hit him in the back with the gun. Both suspects then fled the scene.
The victim did not fully cooperate with the investigation, but witnesses did provide descriptions of the suspects, and told police what direction they were going when they left the scene.
Shortly afterward, officers found one of the suspects while conducting an area check in the 100 block of Black River Boulevard. The 16-year-old was detained, and police found a Walther PPK.380 handgun in his possession.
The teen was processed as an adolescent offender, and charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
Due to his age, the suspect’s name will not be released.
