ROME, NY - For the second consecutive summer there will not be a World Series of Bocce in Central New York.
The Toccolana Club announced Wednesday it has decided to cancel the 2021 event, after meeting with Mayor Jackie Izzo.
"We reviewed the Fairs and local Festivals guidance released by New York State late Monday afternoon. Upon conclusion of this review, the Executive Board, with much regret, voted to cancel the World Series this coming July due to the overwhelming process required to present the tournament in a safe environment given the ongoing virus mitigation measures necessary to stage a public event like the World Series," said Izzo in an email statement.
The 2020 WSOB was cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Toccolana Club had announced this past March that the 2021 tournament would be held July 15-18.
The 2021 Honor America Days, also held in Rome, were cancelled earlier this month.
