NEW HARTFORD, NY - Be prepared for the Route 5/12 Arterial to be shut down again near the Utica/New Hartford line this coming week. The State Department of Transportation has issued a travel advisory.
On Monday and Tuesday, demolition work on the Route 8 bridge is scheduled to continue. The demolition work will start nightly at 10:00 p.m. and extend through 6:00 the next morning.
Due to the demolition work, Routes 5/12 north and southbound will be closed to through traffic at the interchange. In addition, the ramp from Route 840 eastbound to Route 5/8/12 northbound will also be closed to traffic during the demolition operation.
The spokesperson for the New York State Department of Transportation, Jimmy Piccola, said "Last week we removed the concrete in the super soft structure. Now what's left is the beams. So we're scheduling to do that Monday night and Tuesday night."
Piccola also said "If you happen to be going that way give yourself a little bit of extra time to get where you want to go and like I said, we're just gonna try to get that done and minimize the impact to the traveling public as much as possible."
Detour signs will be posted.
