MARCY, N.Y. - Two members of the SUNY Poly men's basketball program are in Brazil representing the United States after being selected for the USA D-3 men's basketball team's Brazil Tour this summer.
Wildcats assistant coach David Golembiowski, a SUNY Poly and Holland Patent High School alum, was named the head coach of the USA D-3 team. Forward Josh Gregory, a Whitesboro High School alum, was selected to play for his coach on the stars-and-stripes' roster.
The USA D-3 team is made up of some of the best players from the NCAA Division III level around the country. They'll play four games across the South American nation.
"This is an outstanding group of basketball players that come from 8 different states and 13 different colleges and universities from across the United States," said USA Sports Director Ron Smith. "We feel that we have some of the best of the best representing several regions of the country.
"These players have been high achievers both on the court and in the classroom. They represent everything good that the NCAA Division III institutions have to offer. "
While the roster was announced publicly, Thursday, the team began its ten-day tour of Brazil on Tuesday, holding a practice at Clube Jundiaense in Sao Paolo before playing a doubleheader in Soracaba on Wednesday.
Next up, the team travels to Rio de Janiero where they will play two games against Flamengo Clube and Gluminese Clube, on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The USA men's and women's teams will then hold a youth basketball clinic at Basquete Cruzada before heading back to the United States on July 21.
