NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – The JCPenney stores in Sangertown Square and Destiny USA are slated to close Sept. 27, according to notices released by the Department of Labor through the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act of 1988.
Layoffs will begin Sept. 21 and continue through Oct. 5 at both locations. The New Hartford store is laying off a total of 85 employees, while Destiny USA will let go of 91.
The reason for closure listed on the notice is “Unforeseeable business circumstances prompted by COVID-19.”
The JCPenney store in Sangertown Square has been open for since 1980.
