NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. – Sangertown Square will reopen this Friday, after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that malls could reopen in Phase 4 if they meet the air filtration standards set by the state.
In June, Cuomo said malls would be required to have high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters that can filter out coronavirus particles. To do so, the HEPA filters must have a minimum efficiency reporting value (MERV) of at least 11.
According to Cuomo, other than meeting the MERV-11 standard, malls must update ventilation protocols, such as increasing outdoor air, reducing air recirculation, longer system run times and frequent filter checks.
Pyramid Management Group, the company that manages Sangertown Square, said they plan to open all properties on Friday. They also manage Destiny USA in Syracuse.
The mall will be open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
Sangertown Square is planning to open with new health and safety protocols in place, including the following:
- Requiring masks
- Social distancing of at least six feet
- Enhanced cleaning procedures on all surfaces, restrooms and seating areas, including the food court
- Using new electrostatic sprayers to disinfect all areas
- Installing hand sanitizer stations throughout the mall
Some stores in the mall with outside entrances have been open since Phase 2, and some with curbside pickup options available.
