LITCHFIELD – A Sauquoit man was killed in a one-car crash in the town of Litchfield yesterday, according to New York State Police.

Around 11:30 a.m., police responded to a one-car crash on Roberts Road in Litchfield, Herkimer County. Police say 51-year-old Rodney Randall of Sauquoit was driving a 2008 Pontiac southbound on Roberts Road when he attempted to pass a tractor trailer in a no passing zone.

Police say Randall over-corrected when he re-entered the driving lane, then lost control of the vehicle and went off the road on the south shoulder. The vehicle then struck a culvert and became airborne before overturning and coming to a rest upright.

Randall was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
