Sauquoit Valley students participate in National Student Walk Out

Students at Sauquoit Valley High School took part in the National Student Walk Out on Wednesday morning.

SAUQUOIT, NY - Students at Sauquoit Valley High School took part in the National Student Walk Out on Wednesday morning.

At 10:00 a.m. students from all grade levels gathered to stand in solidarity with the victims of the Parkland school shootings, one month after a gunman murdered 17 people.

The students spent 17 minutes having constructive discussions with school administrators on how to make their school a safer, more inclusive place. 

"We want to make it clear that this was a conversation, not a conflict," says Rachael Powles, a senior at Sauquoit and organizer of the event. "Our administration was generous enough to hear our voices, and we believe there has never been a better time for us to use our rights. We all deserve to feel safe at school."
