UTICA, N.Y. – Cara Sherman of Schenectady made Boilermaker history Sunday as the first woman to win the 5K race overall, not just in the women's division.
Sherman finished the race with a time of 17:05.
“It feels really great, I’m super excited about it,” she said.
Sherman usually runs the 15K, but in a year of changes, she decided to run the 5K.
“I haven’t run the 5K since 2013, so it’s kind of a fun race,” said Sherman. "A fun, short race."
Sherman recently graduated from the University of Albany where she was a distance runner on the women's track and field team.
The men’s 5K winner was Bryce Millar from Chittenango. He finished with a time of 17:44.
