UTICA, N.Y- Empire recycling and Sculpture Space kept up a long-standing Earth day tradition of turning recyclables into works of art.

8 sculptors were at Empire Recycling Monday morning searching for pieces for their next work of art.

"We come every year to the earth day pick and pull where we bring up to 8 sculptors out to the recycling yard. We pick pieces for our upcoming charity art auction. They take the pieces here and turn them into some wonderful art pieces," said Tom Montan, Executive Director of Sculpture Space.

The partnership between the two companies has been for decades, this tradition has been going for 15 years.

"Its a wonderful collaboration between Sculpture Space and Empire Recycling," said Montan.

Sculpture Space donated a large sculpture piece that overlooks the entire recycling yard. Organizers say that events like these highlight the importance of recycling in our community.

"Well, there's a lot of importance to recycling. We want to keep as much as we can from being put into landfills and incinerated. The ability to recycle raw materials is what keeps the earth in the best shape," said Dave Levitt, Facility Manager at Empire Recycling.

All of the sculptures created using the materials gathered on Earth Day will be on display at Sculpture Space on September 28th.

Empire Recycling accepts all metals. They do not accept anything with toxic materials or garbage.

All donations of metal may be reimbursed with payment.
