ROME, N.Y. --- State Police Investigators spent much of the day searching the Red Carpet Inn for evidence following Sunday's deadly shooting.
State Police said 2 male suspects entered the hotel room of the 28-year-old victim, shooting him in the chest and the head. The victim was able to make it to the Hotel office where he was able to call for help.
Police had the building surrounded for over an hour thinking the shooter was still inside the hotel. Police transported the victim to Rome Memorial Hospital where he died.
At this point, the two suspects are still on the run. Police said they were last seen in a black Nissan Rogue. Members of the community in Rome on edge.
"I am shocked because we've always felt very very safe in this community. And for something like that to happen, we're just surprised. We never hear about those types of things," said Patty Boulerice.
"I actually honestly feel bad for the family to the suspects that are involved. I feel bad for that family because they have to live with that now too. That's something they have to live, with so it's very sad for everyone involved," said Darlene Whitmore.
State police are asking for the public’s assistance. If anyone was in the area of the Red Carpet Inn on Lawrence Street in Rome around 12:15 p.m and may have seen anything suspicious, or has surveillance video (Ring video) or has any information related to this investigation to contact the New York State Police at 315-366-6000.
