HERKIMER, NY - Superintendents from several Herkimer County school districts met with the New York State Department of Health Friday morning and decided to close schools and cancel activities until April 14.
The closure will begin March 16, and affects the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES as well as the following: Central Valley, Dolgeville, Frankfort-Schuyler, Herkimer, Little Falls, Mount Markham, Owen D. Young, Poland, Richfield Springs and West Canada Valley.
Students and 10-month staff will not go to school, but teachers can go inside buildings to prepare curriculum or materials.
All 12-month employees will continue to work while schools are closed, unless they are experiencing symptoms. In that case they should not come to work and self-quarantine.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo waived the 180 school day requirement in New York, and left the decisions on closures up to individual districts.
