ORIGINAL STORY - All school buildings in the Utica City School District are now on lockout following a reported shooting on Seymour Avenue in Utica Friday afternoon.

Shots were heard near the intersection with James Street around 12:45 p.m. and police were dispatched to 1601 Seymour Avenue, accoring to the Oneida County 911 Center.

Caution tape has been placed around a lot at the corner of the two streets.

The Utica Police Department posted the following message regarding the incident on its Facebook page Friday afternoon:

The Utica City Schools are currently on a lockout situation to a Police investigation occurring on the 1600 block of Seymour Ave.

A lockout is a procedure where the school district does not allow anyone from the outside into the building. Normal school curriculum resumes and the students daily operations are not significantly affected.

There is no direct relationship to the school district and this is out of an abundance of caution due to being school operating hours.

We will release more details as available.

NEWSChannel 2 crews at the scene spoke with a witness who says one man was taken away in an ambulance.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
