A Tornado Watch is in effect for most of Central New York until 10:00pm tonight. This is as a line of thunderstorms moves through the region this evening, ahead of a cold front. Central NY has been upgraded to an "enhanced risk" for severe weather, meaning a 4 out of 6 in terms of severe weather categories.
Thunderstorms develop after 4PM and move through the region from west to east until 9-10PM. These thunderstorms are capable of producing damaging winds, minor flooding and an isolated tornado.
Widespread rain followed the risk for severe weather Friday night. Rainfall amounts look to be around an inch across the area but some localized downpours are possible.
Make sure you are prepared for severe weather by taking care of any outdoor furniture that could be damaged by strongs winds. Also, make sure your phone or weather radio are nearby for weather alerts. And don't forget to charge your electronics just in case the power goes out. The weather looks to dry out just in time for the weekend, though. A return to sunshine is expected on Saturday, with highs in the upper 60s.
