CLARK MILLS, N.Y. – A Utica man died Tuesday after falling from the roof a four-story building while working on a construction job at 7692 Main St.
Frankie T. Torchia, 33, was repairing the roof with another worker. Oneida County Sheriff Rob Maciol says the two were placing a 30-foot section of steel roofing when a strong gust of wind blew the piece of metal, knocking Torchia off the building.
Police and fire departments responded to the report of the fall just before 11 a.m. Torchia was pronounced dead at the scene.
Maciol says the two were not using any safety equipment or harnesses while working on the roof.
OSHA and the New York State Department of Labor also investigated the scene after the accident.
