ORISKANY, N.Y. – Sheriff Rob Maciol is still holding his ‘Sheriff’s Community Coffee’ series, online on the sheriff’s office Facebook page.
On Friday, Maciol interviewed Brian Wyman, father of the late Deputy Kurt Wyman, who was killed in the line of duty in 2011.
Wyman said he has joined a group for family members who have lost police officers, called Concerns of Police Survivors, or COPS.
“You could just sit down and start talking with any of them. There’s groups of people that are laughing. There's groups of people that are crying. It is a mixed bag of emotions. You can't go down there thinking it's going to be one thing because you know one minute you're laughing, and the next minute you're crying,” said Wyman.
Kurt was 24 years old when he was killed. In his honor, the county has established Deputy Wyman Memorial Highway and an annual remembrance ceremony.
