UTICA, N.Y. – Utica police have arrested a man who was allegedly involved in a shootout earlier this month where another man was shot in the head.
On July 5, police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head inside a vehicle on the corner of James Street and Seymour Avenue following an exchange of gunfire just after midnight.
According to UPD, 22-year-old Idris Brown was a passenger in that vehicle at the time of the shootout, and was allegedly in possession of a gun that police say he fired several times during the incident.
Brown was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm. He also had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest for criminal mischief from an unrelated incident.
Police are continuing to investigate and search for other suspects in this case. They are also looking for Brown’s gun, which has not yet been recovered.
The man who was shot in the head was taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center for treatment, and later transferred to a Syracuse hospital, where he has remained since the incident.
Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 315-223-3556.
