WESTERNVILLE, N.Y. – Attendees learned about sled dog racing Wednesday during a presentation at the Western Town Library in Westernville.
Christina Gates, director of the Region 5 International Sled Dog Racing Association, put on the demonstration with her two dogs, Gwen and Raspberry.
Gates says she’s been raising sled dogs and putting on these presentations for several years, and ends up seeing many familiar faces.
"A lot of the kids I see year, after year, after year, after year and I watch them grow up. So, they know the answers and they raise their hands really fast, one has questions and I really don't allow them to answer. Some of the kids are really kind of taken a back they've never seen quite like that, and adults too question and aren’t so sure about it because it's so new to them. It's so different from anything that they have experienced before," she said.
About 30 people attended the event at the library.
