ORISKANY, N.Y. -- A Special Olympian from Saquoit showed her appreciation to local law enforcement by treating them to lunch on Friday.
Lauren Marraffa and her mother, Barbara Marraffa, stopped by the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office complex in Oriskany to deliver the food and a ‘Thank You’ card in recognition of National Police Week, and to thank the office for all they do to support the Special Olympics Torch Run.
“Lauren wanted to show her appreciation for Sheriff Maciol -- they go way back with the torch runs -- and recognize what they do for our community. They do a lot for our community, not just protect our community but they get involved in the community,” said Barbara.
According to Barbara, Lauren purchased the lunch buffet with her own money, because she considers the members of the sheriff’s office to be some of her “best friends ever.”
Lauren has won gold medals in figure skating and swimming in the Special Olympics.
