UTICA, NY - St. Mary of Mount Carmel/Blessed Sacrament parish hosted their Famous Food Fall Drive-thru Saturday.
Cars were lined up around the block for the cash-only event.
It's being held where the church holds its annual Italian Festival. The festival had to be canceled this year due to the coronavirus.
Hungry patrons drove into the parking lot on the Jay Street side of the church to order mushroom stew, pasta fagioli, sausage and pepper sandwiches, and fried meatballs.
Volunteers took the orders, then brought the food out to the cars.
Drive-thru chairman Bill Thibault says people aren’t just getting some delicious food, they’re also helping out a great cause.
“We’re hoping to make up some of the money that we lost from not having our big festival. A lot of the programs the church does, plus a lot of the utilities the church has to pay for, is usually funded by our fundraisers. This year, without them, we've had to ask our patrons for a little bit extra."
The Famous Food Fall Drive-thru wraps up after Sunday mass, with pizza fritta and meatballs available from 8:30 to 12:30.
