UTICA, N.Y. -- St. Mathew’s Temple Church of God in Christ, in Utica, has been named in a lawsuit filed under the Child Victims Act, which extends the statute of limitations for child sex abuse charges.
Warren Curtis, of South Carolina, filed the suit. Curtis is accusing clergy and volunteers at Church of God in Christ of raping him and forcing him to perform sexual acts on other boys from 1974 to 1978, when he was 12 to 16 years old.
St. Matthew’s is named as one of the defendants in the case.
The lawsuit names three churches, including another in New York and one in Tennessee.
Two local pastors are also identified in the lawsuit, but are not named because they have since died.
St. Matthew’s has not yet responded to NEWSChannel 2’s request for comment.
