NEW HARTFORD N.Y.- There was quite the turnout Thursday night for a special showing of the latest Star Wars movie "The Rise of Skywalker".
The showing was held at the Marquee Cinema in New Hartford.
The film's official release date is Friday December 20th, 2019, but some lucky fans got to see it early Thursday. NewsChannel 2 spoke with fans who came from a Galaxy Far Far Away for the showing.
"It was one of the formative series that established my taste in movies." said Craig Natoli of Sherburne. "It brings out man or child everytime I go back to rewatch it and nothing feels more empowering or inspiring than the galaxy far far away."
Alex Rodriguez, who came all the way from Jamestown to the Marquee says that he grew up in Sherburne and came back to join them for the showing.
"I have some friends in Sherburne that I grew up with and we've been seeing movies like this. We've caught the last few Star Wars movies together, it's a ritual at this point." said Rodriguez.
Worldwide the film is expected to pull in $450,000,000 this opening weekend. Other local theaters showing the film this weekend are the Rome Cinemas 8, and Hamilton Theater.
