10:35 P.M. UPDATE – Route 233 is back open in both directions following an accident Tuesday involving a dump truck and a car.
The New York State Department of Transportation said they reopened the roadway around 10:30 P.M.
The Kirkland Town Police Department said Janelle Perry, 36, was pulling out of a driveway on Route 233 when the crash happened. They said she failed to yield the right-of-way to a dump truck driven by Timothy Hutchings, 55.
Hutchings’ truck struck Perry’s car on the driver side causing extensive damage to her vehicle. The dump truck then lost control and traveled off the shoulder of the roadway, destroying a guiderail and utility pole.
Crews spent much of the day and evening Tuesday replacing and repairing the guiderail and utility pole.
Kirkland Police said Perry was taken to a local hospital for what they considered to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Perry was issued a ticket for failing to yield the right-of-way.
