UPDATE: State Police identify man killed in hunting accident

State Police have identified the man killed in a hunting accident on Sunday.

UPDATE - Herkimer County District Attorney, Jeffrey Carpenter, confirmed the relationship between the victim and the shooter.

Carpenter says two were acquaintances, not related. He also says the shooter could face possible charges.

"Charges could come as a result of this, it's under investigation right now, the autopsy was conducted yesterday, we do not have that report yet but at this point in time we're exploring all avenues, from not charging to facing possible criminal charges," Carpenter said. "The forensic investigation unit with the state police came out to reconstruct the scene the best they could, we had drones flying over to map the scene. The investigations ongoing and determinations will be made I assume in the very near future."


UPDATE- State Police have identified the man killed in a hunting accident on Sunday.

Police say Joshua R. Morgan, 20, from Newport was part of a hunting party who was hunting in a wooded area north of Route 5S in Frankfort Center.

They say he was reportedly accidentally shot and killed by another member of the hunting party.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York State Police were assisted at the scene by the New York State Environmental Police, Town of Frankfort Police Department, and the Frankfort Center Fire Department.

The investigation is ongoing.


Frankfort, N.Y. - State Police say that one person has died following a hunting incident in Frankfort.

State Police are investigating what they are calling a hunting incident in Frankfort.

It happened in a wooded area off of Route 5S near Dyke Road around 8:45 Sunday morning.

The name of the victim has not been released.
