State Police take over investigation into Yorkville fatal fire

State Police are now the lead investigators into Yorkville fatal fire but so far they are not releasing much information on that investigation.

Yorkville, N.Y. - New York State Police are now heading up the investigation into a fatal fire In Yorkville that killed a seven-year-old girl and critically injured her mother.


State Police Troop D Spokesperson Jack Keller confirmed with NEWSChannel 2 Friday afternoon that State Police are now the lead agency looking into not only the cause of Thursday night’s fire on Campbell Avenue, but also whether there was any foul play involved.

Yorkville police say seven-year-old Taylor Mishlanie and her mother, 41-year-old Heather Mishlanie, were pulled from their second floor apartment by firefighters. They were both taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in Utica where Taylor later died. Heather was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where she is listed in critical condition.

Keller says the State Police were asked by Yorkville’s Police Chief to help in the investigation.

”Chief has asked our Forensic Identification Unit and Major Crime Unit to assist in the investigation. We are also working with State Fire Investigators to determine the cause and origin of the fire,” Keller said.

Keller says investigators are questioning several people regarding this investigation.

Keller is also asking anyone has information or video of the fire to please contact State Police at (315) 366-6000.
