HERKIMER, N.Y. – Herkimer County was one of the only left to make a decision on its annual fair, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo beat them to it Wednesday, when he announced all county fairs would be canceled this summer.
Fair officials say they were scheduled to meet Monday, and would have decided to cancel anyway.
"All county fairs will be canceled. We canceled the state fair, which is a really beautiful annual event. But we canceled that last week, and we're also going to be canceling county fairs," said Cuomo.
He announced the cancellation of the New York State Fair on Monday, citing the risk of spreading coronavirus at such a mass gathering.
The 2021 Herkimer County Fair is scheduled for Aug. 17 – 22.
Oneida and Otsego counties had announced their cancellations prior to the governor's announcement.
