UTICA, NY -- New York State Police arrested a Lewis County woman who was paid nearly $7,000 after allegedly filing an anonymous abuse complaint against herself, in order to collect paid leave.
Heather Race, 40, of West Leyden, is employed by the NYS Office for People With Developmental Disabilities in Oneida County.
The New York State Justice Center found that Race made the false abuse report in order to collect paid administrative leave while the complaint was investigated.
Investigators say Race received eight weeks of paid administrative leave totaling $6,934.76.
She is charged with grand larceny, offering a false instrument for filing and falsifying business records.
Race was arraigned in Lewis County and released on her own recognizance.
