WHITESBORO, N.Y. – Yorkville Police have identified the man killed in a motorcycle crash in Whitesboro early Sunday morning as 45-year-old Nathaniel Harvey, of Whitesboro.
The New York State Attorney General's Office is assessing whether or not they have jurisdiction to investigate a fatal motorcycle crash that happened on Oriskany Boulevard over the weekend.
The AG's office called the incident an "officer-involved fatality."
Whitesboro police say Yorkville officers were trying to stop the motorcycle on Oriskany Boulevard along the border with the village of Whitesboro around 1 a.m. Sunday. The motorcyclist tried to flee from police, and crashed between Clinton and Westmoreland streets, sustaining fatal injuries. Police now say they found a loaded, stolen handgun near the accident scene, in the debris field.
Whitesboro police Sgt. Jeffrey Kopec says his department had no involvement in the pursuit, but officers did assist with securing the scene after the crash.
State police have already conducted an accident reconstruction at the scene, but the state attorney general’s office in Syracuse is leading the investigation.
