UTICA, N.Y. – The annual Stomp Out Cancer telethon will be held Wednesday, Oct. 21, to raise money for new equipment for the Mohawk Valley Health System oncology department.
According to MVHS, the funds raised will go toward a new linear accelerator, which would be used for radiation procedures.
While the pandemic has led to several postponements or cancellations, cancer patients can’t pause their treatment, which is why telethon chair, Symeon Tsoupelis, says the equipment is vital.
"Cancer hasn't gone away during all this COVID. I think even more so, you realize how important it is to have the best technology and the best staff right here in the Utica area," he said.
An anonymous donor has agreed to match contributions to the telethon up to $150,000.
Live updates from the telethon will be posted to the MVHS Facebook page throughout the day.
Gifts of $100 or more will receive a $10 gift certificate to Symeon's Restaurant. Gifts of $200 or more will also receive a $10 gift certificate to Utica Coffee Roasting Co.
