The summer season is winding down, but we are not out of the woods for severe weather. Thunderstorms are expected to return to our area Wednesday evening. Some of these storms could be on the strong side. Because of the possibility of severe weather, we've highlighted Wednesday a Stormtracker 2 Alert Day.
First, the timing of this weather is really important. The weather looks to stay dry tomorrow morning and into the early afternoon. This is good news for folks heading to Cooperstown for the Baseball Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm and the weather forecast is calling for dry conditions to start. It's not until the late afternoon and early evening that storms develop and approach from the west.
When the storms do arrive, we're expecting a few of them to be on the stronger side. Some of these storms will be capable of producing gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall. Tomorrow's atmosphere is expected to have wind shear, meaning we can't rule out the possibility of an isolated tornado.
The storms will clear our area in the late evening, with cooler weather to follow for the end of the week.
