Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for Central NY until 9PM Monday. Remember, a watch means conditions are favorable for the severe weather event but are NOT currently happening.
A strong cold front will move into the region late this afternoon and evening. Out ahead of that cold front, the air will be hot and humid, with highs near 90 degrees. As the cold front approaches from the west, showers and thunderstorms will begin to develop during the afternoon and continue into the evening, with the best timing for severe weather of 3-7PM.
Any thunderstorms that do develop could be severe with damaging winds, hail as well as heavy rain. With the rain from the past couple of days, the ground is saturated, so minor flooding is possible. The severe weather threat diminishes Monday Night, with much cooler weather on Tuesday.
