ONEONTA, N.Y --- The campus at SUNY Oneonta came alive as the campus welcomed around 2,000 students to the community.

Many of both the students and their families felt mixed emotions as they unpacked their things.

"I'm nervous but excited, I'm looking forward to meeting my roommates and just looking forward to whole year," said Incoming Freshman Paul Schmidt.

The campus also has a long standing tradition of welcoming students to the campus. Each year, the incoming students walk through a pair of pillars placed on the campus. They come from one of the college's original buildings, The Old Main. There's a theory that every student that attended the college, walked through those pillars at one point.

"We have a rich history of welcoming students. This year we are welcoming 2000 students so it will be bustling and its all hands on deck and helping students and families make the transition. In this exciting period of time in their lives," said College President Barbara Morris.

The college had a number of events planned for the incoming students as they settle into the college. Classes begin on Monday.
